Trading freestyle for slalom, the 2009 Dwarf8 PWA Surf World Cup will mark the official start of the men’s PWA race season. Following a turbulent winter of sponsorship changes and new PWA regulations coming into effect, this inaugural event will act as benchmark for the season that lies ahead.

The Low Down

Running from the 5th to the 10th of May, the Dwarf8 PWA Surf World Cup takes place on Lake Neusiedl’s 315 square kilometers of fresh water, located between Austria and Hungary. With two predominant wind directions (N-NW and S-SE) the lake can produce anything from howling side-shore gales to super technical cross-offshore conditions, leaving sailors at the mercy of the ever-changing Atlantic fronts that track over central Europe… Details

More than 100 windsurfers and kitesurfers took to the waves to raise funds for cancer research.
Organiser David Tuttlebee was given special permission to leave his hospital bed for the day so that he could be at Hayling Island for the fundraiser.

BRIGG windsurfer George Bowles learned some valuable lessons as he pulled off one of the shocks of the RYA Volvo Youth National Championships by sailing to RS:X class glory off the West Coast of Scotland.

Despite having only progressed from the Bic Techno board to the bigger RS:X last September, the 17-year-old from Worlaby showed he is definitely one to watch for the future as he sailed past 2008 RS:X Youth European silver medallist Ali Masters into second spot… Details

The UKWA National Championships 2009 begin at the Weymouth & Portland Sailing Academy this Bank Holiday weekend… and what a way to spend a Bank Holiday!

Although we will have paid a small supplement of only £5.00 per day to compete at this venue, there is no better location in the UK for Course Racing. Weymouth, historically, has delivered great events for the UKWA and so – on our return after too many years away – we look forward to three days of action-packed racing.

About The Cup Series: The objective is to provide high quality Racing for the Techno OD 6.8 & 7.8, RS:X, Raceboard and Formula Fleets.
