Thank you for everyone that intended to go to the June 4th meeting in support of Lost Isle. That meeting is on hold. below please find a letter from Lost Isle explaining what is happening:
May 26, 2009
To Lost Isle Customers:
On Friday May 22, 2009, I met with Sheriff Moore and several representatives from the sheriff’s department to review unresolved issues regarding new requirements imposed on Lost Isle in order to obtain an Entertainment Permit. In addition we also discussed past security and operating issues raised by the sheriff’s department. Although we did not settle all of the issues raised at the meeting, progress was made. We currently have an appeal scheduled to be heard by the county Planning Commission on June 4, 2009, but after meeting with the sheriff, I determined it was in the best interest of Lost Isle to request a continuance of our appeal. Therefore, your support and attendance is no longer necessary at the June 4th meeting. I want to thank all the people who sent in the supportive emails and thank all the people who were ready to stand up for Lost Isle at the meeting! At this time we don’t yet know what date our appeal will be heard, or if an appeal will still be needed, but we will keep you informed.
My team and I have been involved with the management of Lost Isle for 14 years. During this period we have had many incidents in which the sheriff’s department has been a part. There exists a general feeling of mistrust on both sides related to our past operating practices, promises made and not kept, and facts surrounding many incidents. With communication lines open between Lost Isle and Sheriff Moore, it is my belief that acceptable conditions can be negotiated for an Entertainment Permit. To that end, I believe that additional time is needed to work out the specific terms of our Entertainment Permit. Time will also be needed to rebuild trust. During the next several weeks I will continue to meet with the sheriff’s department to finalize the conditions related to our Entertainment Permit.
Again, to you our loyal customers, thank you so much for the outpouring of recent support you have given Lost Isle. The hundreds of postings, emails and phone calls have helped us to strive forward and to strengthen our commitment to overcome the obstacles that are before us. Please continue to post your experiences on our website. Your opinions of safety and personal experiences will help our negotiations with the Sheriff’s Department.
On another note, we have now begun construction of our new sewer system and anticipate completion this season. Please check out our website, www.lostisle.com frequently for updates.
Thank you again for all of your support and kind words, we appreciate it very much.
With kind regards,
David G. Wheeler, Jr.
