PWA Sotavento, Fuerteventura Grand Slam 2010 – Reigning World Champions, Antoine Albeau and Jose ‘Gollito’ Estredo stamp their authority on their respective fleets after ten days of spectacular competition in Sotavento.
Rene Egli and his team hosted yet another outstanding PWA Grand Slam last week for the very special 25th Anniversary edition of the event, in which the modern day slalom legend from France, Antoine Albeau (JP, NeilPryde) claimed his fifth consecutive Fuerteventuran crown. And, the three times world freestyle champion from Venezuela, Jose ‘Gollito’ Estredo (Fanatic, North) claimed not only his fourth title from the windy isle, but also secured the 2010 freestyle world title.
This past weekend the Maui Race Series was completed with the annual Hawaii State Slalom Championships sponsored by Neil Pryde. Three MauiSails riders stood out – Tamara Bockius completing her perfect season winning the Women’s Open division, Mike Yasak shining once again winning in the Men’s 50-59 age group, and current US National Champion Phil McGain winning both the Men’s Pro division and Men’s 40-49 age group.
Winds at Kanaha had finally kicked in for the final race of the season, with gusts well over 20 knots and the chop at Kanaha creating challenging Slalom racing conditions … Details
Windsurfing World’s 2010 update: Cercle de Voile de Martigues (CVM), France, last week hosted the largest windsurfing championships in recent memory. The entry, 435 competitors, exceeded the previous record established at last years Junior, Youth and Masters Windsurfing World Championships in Weymouth, UK.
It was particularly satisfying to see an increase in both age divisions, boys and girls, in the Techno 293 Championship – the class supported by all windsurfing classes for the junior (under 17 ) development pathway … Details
