The 2011 Downunder Pro – Oceanic and Australian Formula Windsurfing Championships has been conquered by Wilhelm Schurmann, from Brazil. The Brazilian windsurfer dominated the four-day regatta at Jimmy’s Beach, Hawks Nest, Australia.

Forty nine windsurfers battled in the eight races run. In the last day of competition, Schurmann secured the lead with 25-knot winds and an overall score of seven out of eight race victories.

Kites, sails and wings on snow or ice, slalom and course, champions and beginners, racing and playing around. Best sails in the World in one place for entire week, now for 31st time.

10 days, 7 sports, over 100 competitors.

At the end of February the small village Oravi in the heart of Finland’s Lake District Saimaa will turn into the meeting place for ice and snow sailors from all over the world. The reason for the gathering is the annual World Championship, WISSA (World Ice and Snow Sailing Association), which now is arranged for the 31st time. There, over 100 of the World’s best winter sailors, women and men, will compete and show their skills on skies and on snowboard.

Competition will take place in different classes and disciplines. The classes are: kites, sails and hand held wings. The disciplines for kite are: course race and the new discipline kite cross, which consists of three parts: speed race, quick downwind track and a freestyle race. The disciplines for the other classes are: course race and short track slalom.

Kitewing, the hand held sail, will be strongly present in Oravi.  Kitewing is one of the main sponsors of the event, Kitewing dealers from different countries will meet and talk about their passion for Kitewing and skillful riders will show how you have fun with the sail.   www.kitewing.com/

It’s been nearly 18 years since a world championship windsurfing regatta has plied the waters of San Francisco Bay but that’s just what is set to happen this upcoming July 17-24 2011 as the Bic Techno 293 (T293) Worlds roll into town.

The last World Championship level windsurfing event on The Bay was the 1993 IMCO worlds but that’s set to change soon. The upcoming Techno worlds will be hosted by the prestigious St. Francis Yacht Club and the estimated 200-300 T293 sailors will be treated to all the trappings of an America’s Cup-style regatta. The final day of the 2011 Rolex Miami OCR was a challenging one. It was medal day and everybody wanted to windsurf straight to the podium. Reserved for top-ten fleet racing finishers, the medal races count double points so when differences are marginal as they were for the bronze medal positions in the RS:X windsurfing fleets anything can and does happen.
