Europe’s first artificial surf reef is in the final phase of tests in Boscombe, Dorset, England.
The £1.4 million project will be ready for surfing, windsurfing, kitesurfing and bodyboarding next month.
The reef will not create waves, but acts as a ramp which changes the way the waves break and will certainly improve the quality of the surf and produce a long right-hand ride of around 75 metres for surfers, and a shorter left-hand ride of around 35 metres most favourable for body boarders.
During clean, long period swell, the reef and the inshore banks would all be surfable.

Fresh from a ten-day rest after the Germany Tour stop, the Professional Kiteboard Riders Association (PKRA) – the world renowned kiteboard riders association is back in Brazil for a 5-day Tour stop. Organized by the Gest Group led by Eduardo Piloni as General Coordinator, Kite-Racing Brasil 2009 will run until August 16, featuring world-class kiteboard racers and some of the best Brazilian racers the kiteboarding world had ever seen.
Yesterday’s registration drew a ton of participants from different nationalities including the largest delegation from Brazil with 18 male competitors and 3 women racers. The local racers will get a chance to test their skills against the experienced and the best racers in the world.

Just when we thought KB4C couldn’t get any better, it did.
Participants pumped up their kites and the clouds parted as 125 kiteboarders and about 20 standup paddlers took to the windy conditions and swell-blanketed waters of the Columbia for the 3rd annual event.
