This year has been the most fantastic year for wind and weather conditions here in St. Peter-Ording, Germany. The sun has been out nearly every day and record-breaking temperatures have embraced hundreds of fans, spectators, locals as well as vacationers from all around the world.

More than 114 competitors from 20 different nationalities competed in a total of 3 disciplines such as freestyle, race and board off.

The wind began to pick up in strength early this morning making it possible to finish the freestyle single elimination discipline. The weather has not been cooperating 100% in the wind department, however sunny blue skies and record-breaking temperatures have been the setting throughout most of the competition.

The men’s semi final got underway at 10:30am this morning. Dominican rider, Ariel Corniel (Ozone, DOM) was in the lead of the first heat of the day when he accidentally tangled lines with his opponent Andy Yates (Slingshot, AUS) causing him to be disqualified. Yates moved on to the men’s single elimination final against Spanish rider Alex Pastor (Airush, ESP) who eliminated the 2009 world champion Kevin Langeree (Naish, NED) in the semi final  …  Details

Temperatures averaged 33 degrees Celsius, which is a record high for St. Peter-Ording and the wind averaged 15 knots most of the late morning and early afternoon.

The forecast predicted that the wind would gradually decrease as the day progressed, therefore Olaf Van Tol decided to run the race discipline first, and wait for the wind to pick up a notch or two before he ships the freestylers out on the water.

Five times world kitesurfing champion Aaron Hadlow was a welcome guest at the BKSA Hunstanton National Freestyle event, which took place at the weekend.

Even Hadlow could not influence Friday’s weather on the north coast of Norfolk though, as the strong sunshine and still conditions meant no wind, but the day wasn’t a total write-off, as the competitors watched the BMX and skateboarders going off.

Many of the athletes have a skateboarding or BMX background, so an enjoyable day was had by all, despite the unsuitable climatic conditions  …  Details
