My first time visiting Australia I stayed with a group of Kiteboarder on the West coast in the small town of Rockingham. The daily routine was the local gym and then kiteboarding in Safety Bay. Within the group I lived, 4 of the bunch were Aussies they weren’t from WA but from other spots around Aus. Among other Australian sayings, banter and humour I learned the term “Bogan” which apparently described the small town of Rockingham in which were were staying. Aus was an amazing trip with loads of good times on and off the water. Thanks to everyone who was apart of it.

Surfers have plenty of theories about what attracts sharks and what makes a spot sharky. Peeing in your wetsuit. Blood. Colored wetsuits. Rivermouths. Murky water. Deep canyons. Et cetera. In the interest of separating fact from fiction, SURFING Editor-at-Large Taylor Paul brought a list of these theories, which he gathered through an informal survey of the SURFING staff, to present to Dr. Salvador Jorgensen, a research scientist and shark expert at the Monterey Bay Aquarium — and also a dedicated surfer.
