At the America’s Cup World Series on San Francisco Bay, Oracle Team USA Coutts (Russell Coutts) crashed out in spectacular fashion on Friday, hitting the Race Committee boat at speed during the start of fleet race number three. The veteran had been trying to squeeze into a narrow gap between the start boat and his stablemate, Oracle Team USA Spithill (Jimmy Spithill), but there wasn’t enough room and a violent collision resulted.

‘I thought there might be a gap there, and there wasn’t,’ said Coutts. ‘It was a tough break. I didn’t think it was that risky. I thought they were going to turn down and start the race and they just kept turning up and shut the door.’     …  Pictures and more

The America’s Cup World Series San Francisco continued Thursday with the home team, Oracle Team USA, putting on a show for their fans.

The Team grabbed the top two spots in the first race and lead the fleet racing standings at the AC World Series San Francisco at the end of the day two.

Conditions were good for racing, with winds in the 12- to 16-knot range and fans flocked down to the Marina Green to cheer on their favorite sailors.
