New Sea Chantey Compilations On Compact Disc Recently, a pirate- oriented fan subculture fueled by Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean movie series has been growing across the United States. With it, a great many musical groups have begun performing sea chanteys and sailor songs in both traditional and innovative arrangements, inventing new genres like “pirate rock.” The heavily synergistic Pirates of the Caribbean franchise has lent its imagery to everything from breakfast cereal to pinball machines, so it was not surprising when a collection of sea songs was recently released under the Pirates brand name. This anthology, called Rogue’s Gallery: Pirate Ballads, Sea Songs, and Chanteys (2006), is uneven and anachronistic, but it is a fascinating example of … Details

The America’s Cup action is leaving the courtrooms and heading out to the water. We hope. In a unanimous decision, the New York Court of Appeals ruled in favor of the Golden Gate Yacht Club (GGYC) being the Challenger of Record for the 33rd America’s Cup.
Immediately after the conclusion of the 32nd America’s Cup in 2007, the winner, Alinghi, selected a “paper” yacht club, Club Nautico Espanol de Velo (CNEV), as the challenger of record. The problem was that CNEV didn’t actually satisfy any of the conditions to be the challenger…things like members, previous races, a clubhouse, not even, as famously pointed out, a web page. So our long legal battle started, GGYC sued in the New York Courts (home of the Deed of Gift), they won then they lost on appeal and then had a tie and finally yesterday won what seems like the final legal battle… Details

The run, made on 26 March in winds of only 24 knots, saw Macquarie Innovation reach a maximum speed of 54.23 knots (100km/hr) and become the first sailing boat in the world to complete an official 500m run in excess of 50 knots.
The record claim by the Macquarie Speed Sailing Team is now being prepared …Â Details
Two Australian sailors have just broken the speed barrier of 50 knots in their sailing boat Macquarie Innovation, whilst a British engineer has become the fastest human on earth powered by the wind alone, in a land sailing boat.
On the morning of 26 March on the ‘dry’ Lake Ivanpah in California, USA, The Greenbird, driven by British engineer Richard Jenkins, smashed the world land speed record for wind powered vehicles.
The Greenbird clocked 126.1 mph (202.9 km/h) , eclipsing the old, American held, record of 116 mph, set by Bob Schumacher in the Iron Duck in March 1999 at the same location…Â
