Ron DeMitchell’s first attempt at waterskiing ended with him on his backside in Pontiac Lake.
The Macomb Township resident’s next try was a success, and he took three circles around the lake Friday as part of a recreational outing for people with disabilities.

In a scene eerily reminiscent of “Jaws,†Stevens and his 9-year-old son, Hunter, found themselves being dragged across the Gulf by a shark Saturday morning.
The Clear Lake pair was about three-quarters of a mile offshore near 13 Mile Road. They had been fishing all morning and were about to pack it in.

Saturday was the Anacapa Challenge outrigger canoe race across the Channel. Oxnard Outrigger hosted the race with teams of twelve paddlers in each crew. Each crew had six men and six women, with an escort boat. Every half hour they would change by being dropped in front of the canoe, then, as quickly as possible the men jump out and the women climb in. This goes on, back and forth until the end of the race, about 4 hours plus.
