2017 was another huge snow year for the Sierra Mountains in California and Nevada. This does not always happen, so when it does, it is something really special for Whitewater nerds. The rivers of the Sierra are unlike anywhere else in the world when it comes to quality, length, difficulty, and remoteness. It’s truly an epic adventure to spend a Summer running around CALI’s high terrain chasing the white demon…And who better to do it with than Sven Lammler, Ryan Lucas, and friends? The Rio Maran is a box canyon in a remote region of Southern Peru. This small river gives out quite an unforgettable adventure for those willing to put in the work to get there. A mix between canyoneering, kayaking, and desert camping The Maran makes you work hard but the scenery and experience is full value. We went in October of 2015 but I think flows would be better in May as you will catch the left overs from the rainy season. Enjoy a wild adventure with some close friends through an other-worldy river canyon. – Evan Garcia
