Christopher Owen says that when he was battling addiction, there were times he didn’t want to live.

Saturday, he said, as he arrived in Two Harbors after completing a 22-mile kayak crossing of Lake Superior, he never felt more alive.

Owen and two other men with ties to the Minnesota Teen Challenge addiction treatment program in Duluth successfully completed their “Crossing Over” Lake Superior traverse Saturday morning.

HONOLULU, HI (August 20, 2012) – Embracing the true spirit of legendary waterman Duke Kahanamoku, Duke’s Waikiki donated a new wa’a (canoe) to Nā Kama Kai, a local non-profit dedicated to empowering Hawaii’s youth by providing ocean-based programs that target ocean awareness and safety. The canoe will be used for the non-profit’s keiki ocean clinics.

Bill Bouton, a retired biology instructor, was having little success photographing birds along the California coast Saturday, but fortunately a small pod of humpback whales arrived to save the day.
