The Porsche 9R3 was meant to stop Audi’s Le Mans dominance. Instead, it gave its V10 heart to the Carrera GT
When Audi debuted its R8 Le Mans Prototype in 2000, there was nothing to stop it. The R8 ran away with five overall victories at Le Mans and dozens of wins elsewhere. Over the last two years, Audi’s sports car dominance has been thwarted by corporate brother Porsche, but what if Porsche had built a car to challenge to the original R8 back in 2000? … More
The footage begins by showing the driver, Rene Devereaux, apparently in pole position during the race, leading fellow competitors Bob Woods and Aaron Webb.
Having navigated the final corner into the last lap successfully, Devereaux is in a strong position to claim victory in the race.
But heading in to the home straight to cross the line, the Frenchman inexplicably swerves out of control, careering across the track before coming to a halt on the gravel – bringing an end to his chance of glory.
Second-placed driver Woods manages to avoid the swerving vehicle to cross the line in first place, but Webb has less luck, clipping the front of the Clio, somehow managing to squeeze across the line to claim second place during a dramatic finish.
Video replays taken from a camera inside Devereaux’s car shows the bizarre reason for the carnage.
A spectator, stood close to the track side, flashes her naked boobs at Devereaux’s car, causing him to do a double-take before veering wildly out of control and crashing.
