Porsche has been planning to take control of Volkswagen for several months now, with the sports car maker finally making its move on Wednesday. Porsche announced its integration with Volkswagen earlier today, creating a single entity with 10 underlying brands.

American sports car star Patrick Long has diversified this season by moving into stock cars. He’s raced in NASCAR’s Camping World East, Whelen Weekly Late Model Series and ASA Late Models. Considering he had almost no previous oval experience — and none on pavement — he has done pretty well with a string of top-10 finishes. But is he just another accomplished driver looking to make the move to one of NASCAR’s national series? No, Long says. Not at all.

Formula One led the advent of the “hybrid” race car with the introduction of the Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS) this season.  Corsa Motorsports tested its Q10 Hybrid LMP1 race car yesterday at Silverstone in England.

Corsa Motorsports’ Q10 Hybrid does not run like hybrids seen on the streets everyday.  The Q10 Hybrid uses a system almost identical to the KERS seen on some of the 2009 Formula One cars.

The system uses regenerative braking to capture energy normally lost to heat during breaking.  The recaptured energy is stored in a lithium-ion battery and can be used to power an electric motor.
