A whole fleet of outlandishly decorated clunker cars raced across the track, kicking up dirt, blowing around corners and generally causing a ruckus Saturday at the Thunderhill Raceway Park.
The drivers were part of the “24 Hours of LeMons” competition, a national racing event. But this was no conventional race, said founder Jay Lamm.
To begin with, all participants had to enter cars costing $500 or less, not including safety fees, Lamm said. And due to the sheer volume of applicants, only those with the most silly and entertaining cars were allowed into the competition. About 248 people wanted in, but only 160 were accepted.
