Porsche is reviving the legendary Speedster name on a limited-edition, open-top version of the 911 created to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the firm’s in-house individualization operation, Porsche Exclusive.
The new car is only the third 911 Speedster to go into production, following on from models launched in 1988 and 1993.
To be unveiled at the Paris auto show alongside the similarly powered 911 Carrera GTS, the 2011 Porsche 911 Speedster is planned to be produced in a limited run of just 356 — a figure harking back to the original 356 Speedster that went on sale in 1953. Porsche works drivers Jorg Bergmeister (Germany) and Patrick Long (USA) will tackle the 1,000-kilometer race in Zhuhai, China, on Nov. 7 with the Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid. This marks the first event in China for the innovative sports car from Weissach, which features two electric motors at the front axle each developing 60 kilowatts to supplement the 480 horsepower combustion rear engine.
The race on the Zhuhai International Circuit, in which the 911 GT3 R Hybrid is not eligible for points, is the third and final round of the ACO’s new Intercontinental Le Mans Cup, after Silverstone’s Le Mans Series round and Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta … Details
September 9, 2010: Car and Driver magazine has awarded the Porsche Boxster Spyder the title “best-handling car in America”. Thanks to its outstanding handling characteristics, the open-top mid-engine sports car from Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, asserted itself against six high-class competitors during the test drives at the Waterford Hills race circuit in Michigan. The top model in the Boxster series particularly impressed the experienced testers with its well-balanced chassis, its precise steering and its predictability, especially at the handling limits.
