audi-r18Audi’s latest Le Mans challenger, the R18, has been revealed as a coupe. The car, which will replace the Le Mans-winning R15-plus, was unveiled at a launch in Ingolstadt tonight.

The R18 will be powered by a 3.7-liter six-cylinder turbodiesel and will soon begin an extensive testing program.

Bruce Canepa has been involved with automobiles in one fashion or another nearly all of his life. He was born into a California car family, therefore his early fascination with anything mechanical was understandable, if not expected.

After some initial in-fighting, Volkswagen has announced that Porsche, not Audi, will take the lead on the group’s future sports car and large luxury sedan offerings. Porsche and Audi have been bickering over which division should take the lead on such projects for the last several months.

Dodge will use Fiat technology to improve the performance and accessibility of the next generation of its Viper, due in 2012. However, the car looks set to retain its own platform rather than becoming too closely linked to Ferrari’s and Alfa Romeo’s product lines.
