It wasn’t that long ago that a record was set for the highest price ever paid for a Porsche at auction during the Gooding and Co auction on Amelia Island. This past weekend in Monterey, that record was smashed! Among a number of historic and significant racing Porsches, the 1972 Porsche L&M 917/10 Spyder stood apart. Actor Steve McQueen’s camera car from the racing film Le Mans has sold at auction for $11 million – making it the most paid for an American car on the auction block.
The 1968 powder blue Ford GT40/Mirage Lightweight Racing Car, P/1074, finished in the Gulf team colors, landed the eye-popping final bid at a collector-car show hosted by RM Auctions in Monterey, California last week.
