Formula One fans are to get the chance to learn how the sport’s technology has influenced other fields of industry at a special exhibition at the UK’s Science Museum in London. The free show, which opens next month, has been organised with input from McLaren and will feature the team’s 2006 car, the MP4-21, suspended from the gallery’s ceiling as its centrepiece.

“British engineers, designers and strategists are at the forefront of Formula One,” commented Professor Chris Rapley CBE, director of the Science Museum. “They are world experts at pushing the boundaries of materials, technology and teamwork.

After 40 years, an authentic recreation of the iconic GT40 racing car that beat Ferrari and won the Le Mans 24 Hours Race in 1966, 1967, 1968, and 1969 is being rebuilt and sold in the US. Named the GT40-R, this racecar will be eligible for vintage racing in the Historic Sportscar Racing association (HSR) and other venues. The GT40R is an authentic reproduction of the original, and is licensed as a continuation model qualifying for the Shelby American Automobile Club (SAAC) and Safir GT40 registries…
