Patrick Long will attempt to make his first start in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series this weekend at Watkins Glen. Long will drive the No. 30 Inception Motorsports Toyota usually driven by David Stremme.
Although he’s a Porsche factory driver, Long has dabbled in NASCAR competition before. He made a one-off start in the Nationwide Series’ first trip to Elkhart Lake’s Road America in 2010, qualifying seventh and finishing 14th.   … More
Chrysler’s head of motorsports, Ralph Gilles, announced today that the automaker will end its Dodge-branded NASCAR racing program at the end of the 2012 season.
In the wake of losing its top team, Penske Racing, to Ford for the 2013 season, Gilles said the company was unable to find a partner that would allow it to “go forward with a structure that met our standards.”

Lightning strikes at Pocono Raceway after a rain-shortened NASCAR race Sunday killed one fan and injured nine others, one critically, racetrack officials said.
Multiple lightning strikes occurred behind the racetrack’s grandstands and outside one of the gates as fans were leaving, Pocono spokesman Bob Pleban said. It wasn’t immediately clear how many of the fans were actually struck by the lightning itself or were injured by related jolts.
