Kyle Busch wasn’t able to run the table at the Auto Club Speedway last weekend, but he delivered a clear message by running third in the Sprint Cup race and winning the Nationwide and Camping World Truck Series races: He’s going to win often in all three of NASCAR’s national series this year, just like he did in 2008.

matt-kenseth-auto-world-5001It’s almost fitting that a most unlikely winner of the first two Cup races of 2009 has kicked off what many expected would be a most unlikely season by NASCAR standards.

By that measure, it’s not really a surprise, then, that Matt Kenseth proved his rain-shortened win at Daytona last week was no fluke, coming back Sunday to win in thrilling fashion in the Auto Club 500 at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Calif.

No professional driver or rider has ever won more races than Ricky Carmichael in San Bernardino County, although motorcycle rider Matt Mladin’s six victories at Auto Club Speedway is a close second.

During his motocross career, Carmichael was the king of Glen Helen Raceway, winning eight times on the hills in north San Bernardino, minutes from where he will be racing Saturday.

Carmichael has decided to put away his motorcycle in favor of a NASCAR truck.

The sanctioning body is hoping all the Carmichael fans – the ones who cheered him to Supercross victories in Anaheim, San Diego and San Francisco – will venture to Fontana to see Carmichael compete …  More info
