83-year-old Foyt was to be grand marshal at this weekend’s 12 Hours of Sebring

For the second time in his life, A.J. Foyt has survived an attack by Africanized killer bees. Thursday’s attack sent the 83-year-old racing legend to a local West Texas hospital, where he was treated and released once his system was stabilized.

Foyt, the first four-time winner of the Indianapolis 500 who also won the 1972 Daytona 500 and 1967 24 Hours of Le Mans, was also attacked by killer bees in August 2005. During that attack, he sustained  …  More

Iconic race driver, team owner and constructor Dan Gurney died Sunday at the age of 86. Gurney passed away due to complications from pneumonia.

“With one last smile on his handsome face, Dan drove off into the unknown just before noon today, January 14, 2018,” Gurney’s wife Evi and family said in a statement. “In deepest sorrow, with gratitude in our hearts for the love and joy you have given us during your time on this earth, we say ‘Godspeed.’”

Born in New York but raised in Southern California, which remained his home for the rest of his life, Gurney was renowned as one of the fastest and most versatile drivers in the sport’s history.

The two driving feats for which he is best remembered – the 24 Hours of Le Mans victory that he shared with A.J. Foyt in 1967, followed by a win (a week later) at the Belgian Grand Prix in an Eagle Formula 1 car of his own construction  …  More

Dale Earnhardt Jr. will retire from NASCAR racing at the end of the 2017 season, it was announced on Tuesday.

The two-time Daytona 500 winner has spent 18 seasons racing in the top NASCAR series, racking up 26 wins along the way.

Earnhardt missed the second half of the 2016 season due to complications from a concussion, and is currently 24th in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup standings.
