If the movie industry was the entertainment king of the 20th century, the video-gaming industry is where disposable income is headed for the 21st century. Nowhere was this more apparent than the Electronic Entertainment Expo–E3 for short–going on right now in Los Angeles.
True, the vast majority of the games at E3 involved vixens and/or steroid-shot musclemen shooting and/or chainsawing bad guys and/or zombies. NASCAR on Tuesday moved Jeremy Mayfield’s challenge of his indefinite suspension to federal court, a move that could keep the driver out of his car another week.
The notification came a day before a North Carolina Superior Court was scheduled to hear arguments pertaining to Mayfield’s suspension for failing a random drug test. NASCAR’s action automatically stayed that proceeding.
Mayfield had hoped a judge would reinstate him in time to compete this weekend at Pocono Raceway in Pennsylvania. His attorneys will now have to either fight the suspension in federal court, or petition the case be moved back to the state level.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. worked with his interim crew chief a week earlier than expected.
The solid result in the No. 88 Chevrolet came just in time.
Earnhardt appeared in sync with Lance McGrew in their first race together, and the 12th-place finish Sunday at Dover International Speedway was a nice first and badly needed step toward salvaging Earnhardt’s slumping season.
“We ain’t clicked yet, but we’re definitely doing OK,†Earnhardt said. “We’ve got a lot to learn about each other. And the more we know and understand about each other I think the better we will be.â€

Team owner Richard Petty says the Chrysler bankruptcy has put cash flow from the manufacturer to the Richard Petty Motorsports organization he co-owns with George Gillett “in a holding pattern.”
From the point of view of the Dodge Motorsports program, however, the commitment to racing is undiminished.
“They’ve stopped everything,” Petty said in the garage at Dover International Speedway this past weekend. “They went into bankruptcy, and they’re sort of in a floating stage right now.
