There’s a possibility that Mark Martin could miss the Chase despite having the most wins. This would lead to possible changes in the Chase-qualifying format.

Here’s how I would change it: To qualify: Top 12 in standings (or top 10) plus any driver with one win. This would make every race count and give the smaller teams a realistic chance at the Chase. Winners would still get 10 bonus points for every win to start the Chase, but now, on any given weekend a driver could qualify. Danica Patrick on Friday rejected skeptics who say she is incapable of switching from driving lighter, aerodynamic Indy cars to the much bulkier and heavier stock cars used on the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.

The judge overseeing General Motors’ bankruptcy case waved the black flag at a trio of NASCAR racers, allowing the auto maker to sever sponsorship deals with current and former drivers.

GM obtained court permission Monday to end 56 promotional contracts. Caught in the pile up were 2008 Daytona 500 winner Ryan Newman, 2007 Nationwide Series co-champion Jeff Burton and NASCAR legend Rusty Wallace.
