DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — NASCAR, Daytona International Speedway and International Speedway Corporation joined forces with Flagler County as the beneficiary of NASCAR’s Green Clean Air tree planting project — one of the newest pro-environment community outreach programs developed by America’s most popular motorsport.

The NASCAR Green Clean Air tree planting initiative will plant 10 trees for every green flag that waves during a Cup Series event. There were 10 green flags at the recent Coke Zero 400 on July 3 at Daytona and 100 trees are being planted at four Flagler County public schools. The NASCAR Clean Air conversation program neutralizes the carbon produced by race events.

Four-time defending NASCAR Sprint Cup champion Jimmie Johnson already has donated $10,000 to the West Michigan-based Racingawareness.com program.

Johnson could donate $20,000 more to the organization, but that decision will be up to fans.

Tony Stewart raced to his first victory of the year, pulling away from Carl Edwards off the final restart Sunday night at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

Stewart beat Edwards by 1.316 seconds for his first victory since Oct. 4, 2009, at Kansas, leaving Edwards winless since the 2008 season finale.
