The effects of the global recession are catching up with the Williams Formula One (F1) team, with the outfit now branching into other businesses in an effort to supplement income.

Williams F1 chief executive officer Adam Parr said it was “carefully” exploring other opportunities that won’t affect its F1-related activities in any way.

“As part of our strategy in a bear market, we are trying to diversify our business a little bit,” he told StarBiz during the second leg of the 2009 F1 Grand Prix earlier this month.

He said Williams F1 was currently designing the cars that would be used for the 2009 Formula Two (F2) season, scheduled to start in May….  Details

The FIA has declared that the controversial diffuser designs used by Brawn GP, Toyota and Williams are legal – rejecting an appeal from rival teams.

The devices were originally protested in Melbourne, where the stewards ruled that they were within the regulations.

Ferrari, BMW Sauber, Red Bull and Renault remained unconvinced and appealed the decision, but after a hearing in Paris yesterday, their arguments have been rejected…  Details

With the 2009 Formula One season less than one month old, the world championship could be on the brink of chaos, depending on this week’s outcome of the FIA’s International Court of Appeal hearing over a controversial car part used by three teams in the recent Australian and Malaysian Grand Prix.

Prior to the start of the Australian GP, Ferrari, Red Bull Racing and Renault filed an appeal after stewards rejected their protests that the cars from Brawn GP, Toyota and Williams used an illegal diffuser. BMW Sauber and McLaren later followed suit. The appeal will be heard Tuesday in Paris, with a decision expected the next day.
