After five races, and back on European soil again, Ross Brawn and his team are still in command in Formula One. Jenson Button has won four out of five races, and is still the leader in the Drivers Championship with 41 points. Teammate Rubens Barrichello is in second position with 27 points, followed by the drivers of the other very successful team of this year, Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber with 23 and 15,5 points.

Brawn-Mercedes is also leading the Constructors Championship with 68 points, followed by RBR-Renault with 38,5 points, and Toyota with 28,5. Although Vijay Mallya claimed his team had made “remarkable progress”, Force India is the only team which has failed to score any points at all, unfortunately the 2010 rule …  Details

A French court on Wednesday dismissed Ferrari’s bid to stop Formula One from instituting a budget cap next season.

Ferrari sought a court injunction against governing body FIA’s plans to introduce a voluntary US$60 million cap for racing teams from 2010, but the appeal was rejected by Judge Jacques Gondrand de Robert.

“There is no imminent damage that needs to be prevented or clearly unlawful unrest that needs to be stopped,” the judge said.

Ferrari, Renault, Toyota, Red Bull and Toro Rosso have threatened to pull out of next year’s championship if the cap isn’t overturned…  Details

Not now, though, with Ferrari and FIA heading for the courtroom over the 2010 regulations and the champions threatening to quit the sport. 

FIAT-owned Ferrari will seek an injunction in a Paris court on Tuesday to try to stop the FIA from introducing a 40 million pound ($60.82 million) budget cap.

“For us it (Formula One) is very important, it’s our life,” said Ferrari boss Stefano Domenicali last week. “We want to fight in order to make sure that we will be in the championship in the right way.”   …  Details
