McLaren boss Martin Whitmarsh has rubbished suggestions that Lewis Hamilton is not as brilliant as we all thought.

He also poured scorn on claims that Hamilton lucked into last year’s Formula One world championship because he had the best car.

Whitmarsh insisted this year’s under-par McLaren was to blame for the champ’s dismal run.

And he revealed the team is already ploughing vast resources into making sure next year’s car is worthy of Hamilton’s talent.

Martin Whitmarsh paid tribute to the determination of both of his drivers after a troubled weekend for Mclaren. Lewis Hamilton battled to 13th with a one stop strategy, and claimed after the race that he had thoroughly enjoyed his outing.

Heikki Kovalainen finished in 14th place and later claimed that he was satisified in emerging victorious from his early race battle with Brawn’s Rubens Barrichello.

Lewis Hamilton – 13th: “It was quite an uneventful race but I actually enjoyed myself this afternoon. I was very heavy at the start but I just pushed and pushed. That’s why I can smile – because I think I drove to my full potential.

FORT WORTH — Helio Castroneves is now a three-time Texas winner, too.

Castroneves, who last month won his third Indianapolis 500, beat Penske teammate Ryan Briscoe off pit row on the final stop and held on for the final 46 laps Saturday night to win at Texas Motor Speedway.

Briscoe was dominating the race, with more than a 10-second lead before a caution flag on the 150th of the 228 laps bunched the field after an extended stretch of green-flag racing.

Castroneves worked past Marco Andretti after that restart and was on the tail of his teammate when A.J. Foyt IV crashed 15 laps later.
