It’s a strange coincidence that the current series of Top Gear is about to finish in a couple of weeks, and Mercedes GP have just announced that Michael Schumacher will be racing for them in F1 next season.

Michael Schumacher, the German seven-times world champion has signed a one-year contract with Mercedes Grand Prix at the team’s offices in Brackley, England, after a month of talks. German newspaper Bild reported yesterday Schumacher will earn about 7 million Euro ($ 10 million) for one season, and it is understood he has an option to continue beyond 2010. ROME — Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo has admitted he is amazed by former seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher’s proposed Formula One return and said he blames himself.
The 41-year-old Schumacher, a consultant for Ferrari, is on the brink of a sensational return to racing with Mercedes-Benz, despite retiring at the end of the 2006 season.
