Less than 16 years ago, some of the most well-known waves in the world had never been surfed.

One of the highlights of last year’s inaugural Red Bull Cape Fear contest was the undercard. Sure, there were some names you might not have been too familiar with, but there’s a certain beauty in seeing an underground charger show the world their stuff.
Maroubra’s Evan Faulks is one of those guys, and as we see here his surfing life isn’t a carousel of plane tickets and five-star hotels. Faulks has been forced to fight for his time in the water, working first as a carpet layer, more recently as a building contractor, and most importantly as a devoted father.
