They came for the waves. They stayed for the pastries. They, meaning the Quiksilver Young Guns. A whole crew of them descended upon France from places near and far — but mostly far. We’re talking New Zealand, Mexico, America, Indonesia, Australia, Mars, etc. All here, in France, raiding the banks and bakeries with the type of excitement and enthusiasm that only youth knows. They had the best trip of their lives. We have the edit to prove it. Hit play and run rampant in France.

France can’t get any more simple – surf and eat. French baguettes. French wines. French banks. Mitch Crews, Kai Otton, Rob Machado, Taylor Knox, Evan Geiselman, Mike Lay and Victoria Vergara sink their teeth into the fine delicacies served up by the best sandbar bistros in Biarritz, Hossegor and Capbreton.
Over the course of the last decade, I’ve seen surf contests from just about every corner of the globe. From bobbing in the channel at Teahupoo in Tahiti to elbowing wanna-be gangsters out of the way for a spot on California’s Huntington Beach Pier. I’ve been there, done that.
Despite this, I still get a thrill seeing Kelly Slater get spit out of a giant Pipeline barrel, and, moments later, he gives me a high-five as he walks up the beach to return his jersey. But not all venues are created equal!

In September 2016, we sent our Billabong Bloodlines crew, including groms Tommy Coleman, Dakoda Walters, Jin Suzuki, Monnojo Yahagi, Kian Martin, Justin Becret and Caleb Tancred on a trip to Japan for an immersion in a unique surf culture. Under the watchful eye of honorary coach Taj Burrow, the boys each scored plenty of waves and had the time of their lives on this trip. We’re more convinced than ever that the future of surfing is bright.
