Even the most hard-core local would agree that Virginia Beach is definitely not an international surfing destination. So why did a pair of Australian die-hards have the city circled on their map before crossing the Pacific on the surf trip of a lifetime?

Aside from surfing and schooling, Powers is president of Powers Friends and Associates, a public relations company. He also substitute teaches at schools, though his goal is to one day become a professor at a university.

There is an awful lot of doom and gloom out there, but when the going gets tough, the tough go shopping.

And being the patriotic sort that I am, I decided to do my part for the good of the economy and help Congress spend our way back to prosperity.

Shopping for a new board is therapy that I suggest you all to try. Walking into a shop nowadays with a fistful of dollars and a gleam in your eye is equivalent to Kelly Slater showing up at your local surf shop. From all the attention you get, it’s like you just won the World Championship Tour or something.
