benifit1“Arden Taylor was only 42 years old when one day he left work early due to a terrible headache. He found out shortly thereafter that he was suffering from inoperable brain tumors. News traveled fast through the surf community and when a young surfer heard about Ardens condition he instantly asked, “Is there something we could do to make him feel better?” The Akins family & the Ventura Surf Club together decided to have a surf benefit in Ardens name. 

The benefit is open to everyone…

This year’s benefit goes to Mike Fisher, who not only  rips on a long board  but a all around great person.  When he was diagnosed with stage 3 brain cancer the community was quick to come together to help him. A tumor was removed from his head a few weeks ago, but to fully rid himself of the disease he is attending a treatment facility in Texas. The costly treatment could save his life if its a breakthrough. Please come out to support this event!…  Details

The Surfrider Foundation is currently working with a wide variety of individuals and organizations on the Marine Life Protection Act –or MLPA. The MLPA is a state law that requires establishing a “network” of marine protected areas along the California coastline. This law is currently being implemented in Southern California.

Much like our National Parks protect special places on land, these Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) offer heightened protection for marine life to thrive and people to enjoy. In short, MPAs protect special places for their “intrinsic value”–preserving ecological abundance for generations to come. I want to recommend this radio show, Extreme Scene, to all adrenaline sports lifestyle fans.  These guys are putting together a fun show every Saturday, 6 to 7 pm on KNBR radio’s 1050 am channel.   It is also available in the Santa Cruz & Monterey Bay Area on KSCO 1080 am.

The guest lineup for the March 7th show includes pro surfer Chris Malloy and Mavericks pioneer, Jeff Clark.

A man posing as Maverick’s surfer Grant Washburn scammed a San Mateo County Historical Museum employee out of hundreds of dollars last year, according to court documents.

On Dec. 12, a day before Washburn was scheduled to attend events at the museum, a man identifying himself as the surfer called the museum claiming to be stuck in Los Angeles without money. He told a museum employee that his wallet was stolen and he needed nearly $500 to purchase a ticket to the Bay Area and another $200 to purchase food and other small items, according to a search warrant filed by the Redwood City Police Department….  Details
