From an early age Mike Douglass had always had an interest in extreme sports and started out riding and racing BMX. He developed a passion for all things related with extreme sports & motorsports and knew he wanted to be involved in the industry in some way.
He came up with the initial concept for ExtremeSponsors.com in 2000 when looking for a way to streamline the ‘sponsorship’ process. Ask any serious athlete what their goal is in their career and they will say ‘sponsorship’. At the time to find a sponsorship deal usually meant being in the right place at the right time, spending hours creating a rider CV and posting hundreds of letters out to potential sponsors. Another potential day for the world-renowned Mavericks Surf Contest in Half Moon Bay has come and gone.
Contest officials on Saturday were considering holding the contest Wednesday, contest director Jeff Clark said. But by Sunday, the anticipated swell had disappeared.
“We were looking at this last swell,” Clark said. “It had potential of being a contest swell, but it ended up being not strong enough.”

I am a product of the Vietnam War. Though I’ve jokingly said that for years, it is true. During the war my mother was a Vietnamese civilian working as a translator for the United States Army in Saigon, where my father was stationed as an American helicopter pilot in the Navy. They met there. Just as the North Vietnamese were taking over Saigon on April 29, 1975, my mother fled Vietnam aboard a refugee boat amidst the historical chaos. My father was also on the coast, hovering overhead while commandeering his final mission in Vietnam. They were separated but four months later, my mother would ultimately relocate to San Diego where they reunited and eventually married.
