Surfing is a regular part of being a soldier. If they have not yet found it, many U.S. soldiers discover surfing while serving. Troops turn to surfing, and who could blame them? Most military arrive for training on beautiful beaches like Virginia, Cocoa, San Juan, and Coronado. When visiting friends at the outlying Hawaii base years back, I was stoked! SURFERS craving big waves off the Gold Coast this week could find themselves part of a shark smorgasbord.
Dozens of surfers flocked to the southern beaches over the weekend to take advantage of the three-metre-plus waves which are expected to continue for the next few days, whipped up by the wild weather.
But dodging floating debris and massive walls of water won’t be the only dangers for boardriders.
Gold Coast Bulletin fishing expert Paul Burt has warned the big waves will entice plenty of sharks off the Gold Coast who will go looking for food after the floods.
He said there would be plenty of food washed in to the ocean from the rivers by the flooding.

Current world number one surfer Joel Parkinson and 1999 World Champion Mark Occhilupo will get to taste what many visting surfers miss on their travels to New Zealand – a solid East Coast swell.
