South Huntington Beach Pier is set to host an massive international field of up-and-coming competitive surfing talent at the famed Hurley U.S. Open of Surfing which hosts both Men’s and Women’s Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Qualifying Series (WQS) 6- Star events. Running in conjunction with the premier contest will be the U.S. Open of Surfing Nike 6.0 Pro Junior, which includes Men’s ASP Grade-2 and Women’s ASP Grade-4 divisions.
Surfers competing in the ASP 6-Star event are looking to capture their share of the ample ratings points available towards qualification for the 2010 ASP Dream Tour while surfers on the ASP North America Pro Junior Series are out to finish within the top three on the regional series in order to qualify for the Billabong ASP World Junior Championships held in Narrabeen, Australia each January…Â Details
This past Saturday July 11, Hawaii’s best youth came out to Kewalo Basin in hopes of Rip Curl GromSearch glory and an invite to the National Finals at Salt Creek. With rippable surf gracing the line-up, the light-footed surfing of Kain Daly, Keala Naihe, Kaulana Apo and more had the beach buzzing.
Oahu local boy Isaiah Moniz stepped up to the challenge and laid down the committed surfing the judges wanted to see. Isaiah grabbed the $250 and the loot in the 14/under, but fell short to Kylen Yamakawa in the dying moments of the 16/under final to put a stop to Isaiah’s dominant run.

Round 1 and the opening two heats of Round 2 of the Billabong Pro Jeffreys Bay were completed today in clean three-to-five foot (1.5 metre) waves at the legendary South African pointbreak, with the world’s best surfers reveling in the opening day of competition.

After an agonising wait the first Round of ‘The 2009 Nomad Shark Island Challenge’ finally got underway in what some are claiming to be suicidal conditions. The anticipated Easterly swell delivered waves in the 2m range with its direction causing some major headaches for some of the riders.
