When hearing the word Jaws, one often thinks of the following things: a scary theme song accompanied by a man eating robotic shark, the dude with the crazy teeth in the Bond flicks, or one of the world’s heaviest waves. On Monday, Jan. 11, it was more of the latter as a giant, clean winter swell pounded Hawaii producing numerous XXL contenders in the “Biggest Wave” and “Ride of the Year” groups, as well as a few spectacular wipeouts. Skis were lost on the rocks, the injured were airlifted to safety, and some were left claiming it was the best day in over five years.

SOUTHPORT SPIT, Queensland/Australia (Saturday, January 23, 2010) – Queensland surfers have fought back on day-two of the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Grade–5 Hurley Burleigh Pro Junior presented by Nike 6.0, as a lack of swell forced contest organisers to relocate the event from Burleigh Heads to the Southport Spit. 

Despite the small, 0.5m conditions Jasper Endersby (Noosa, Qld) and Noa Deane (Coolangatta, Qld) both advanced through to Round 3 giving Australian surfers a fighting chance as the event edges closer to its conclusion on Australia Day.
