Surfers Healing invites families with autistic children to spend the day with us, surfing and enjoying the beach. The sightings are true. Every spring at Doheny State Beach, Menehunes are waking up from their long winter naps and are beginning to surf again at Doheny Beach. What’s all the ruckus about? They are simply getting ready for the 14th Annual Doheny Longboard Surfing Associations Menehune Surf Championships scheduled for June 26th.
The contest begins promptly at 7 AM and is open to boys and girls (menehunes) with divisions 8 and under up to 17 years of age. Hundreds of young competitors are expected to participate. The surfing population is always looking for places with worldwide reputation to go and surf. You would think that since our plant is made up of 70% oceans and seas, which comes down to 360,000 kilometres of coastline that it would not be difficult to find the perfect places to surf. It is, not all the coast like is suitable for surfing. Some of the coastline is cliffs, while other places are just to shallow for strong swells.
