Local surfer Jock Bahen (Cottesloe) caused a major upset today when he eliminated current World Longboard surfing champion Harley Ingleby (Emerald Beach) during the opening round of the ASP Longboard Qualifying Series. Being surfed in trying conditions at Iso’s Reef at Cottesloe Beach in Western Australia, Bahen rocked the crowd when he scored the days highest wave score to go from 4th to 1st and push Ingleby into 3rd.

Hawaii has a new sustainable surf camp for girls.

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 7 July, 2010 : – – The idea for a sustainable surf camp began one day on a beautiful wave in Hawaii and stirred the hearts and minds of a small group of local female surfers. The intention was then and is now to share with young girls in Hawaii our love of the ocean through surfing, water safety, sustainable practices, mentorship and mutual respect for land, sea and each other and impact their lives in a positive way.

With a commitment to working hard, volunteering many hours, asking for help from other surfers and local community they believed they could create not only a “sustainable” surf camp but one available to girls who also needed financial aid to attend any camp this summer. It is now reality and begins July 26th-30th and is able to offer financial aid and will be a single use plastic free camp experience   …  Details

Jordy Smith (Dbn), 22, etched his name into the history books today, becoming the third ever South African winner of the ASP 5-Star Mr Price Pro Ballito, simultaneously moving into the No. 1 position on the ASP World Rankings.

Smith defeated South Coast star Casey Grant (Scottburgh) in the Final to claim an emotional victory before his home crowd. With defending Billabong Pro Champion Joel Parko out of the competition next week due to his horrendous heel injury, Mick Fanning will be taking the lead for the Cooly crew. Fanning expressed sorrow for Joel’s plight, and with these two friends, despite having battled fiercely for the world title last year, the emotion is real.
