Zubizarreta (ESP) 25, today claimed this year’s Cordoama Buondi Pro title an Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Men’s Star- Series 1-Star event over coming former ASP 2009 Dream Tour member Marlon Lipke (DEU) in the long awaited 35-minute show down between the events two top seeded surfers.

When the ASP and Roxy first teamed up to put together an event to crown an undisputed world champ in 2006, Cori Schumacher didn’t even show up.

The then 28-year-old Cardiff, California surfer had already won her 2000 and 2001 world titles (back when they weren’t ASP sanctioned) and had hung up her leash — or at least her contest singlet.

Chris Friend (Alex Headland, Qld) today won the prestigious Mick Fanning Red Bull Junior Surf Masters held at Broadbeach (Gold Coast, Australia).

In excellent, one-metre conditions, Friend outpointed youngster Matt Banting (Port Macquarie, NSW), in a thrilling final which was decided by the smallest of margins.

In a seesawing final, Friend posted a combined two-wave heat total of 14.60 (out of a possible 20) to Banting’s 14.50 clinching the win by only 0.10 of a point  …  Details

Soli Bailey and Kirsten Ogden, both Suffolk Park NSW local surfers, have added their names to one of surfing’s greatest honour rolls by taking out the 16 year and under boy and girl divisions of the 2010 Rusty Gromfest.

On an excellent final day with clean offshore winds and quality waves to 1.5m (3 to 4 feet), the two Byron Bay locals saved their best performances for the final and both scored excellent to outstanding rides to nail their victories  …  Details
