A memorable session on the North Shore, at a bank that rarely works. This was during the 2017 Triple Crown season after a big swell had pushed a lot of sand down off the reef at Pipe and OTW. It looked like a sand bottom version of Pipeline, but with a crazy end section that was closing out. This was one of the most talked about sessions of the winter. – John John Florence

The lunch request was simple to field after the 42-year-old Spanish adventurer stepped onto the docks of the Waikiki Yacht Club yesterday morning. There the Honolulu club’s commodore officially stamped his time of 8:30 a.m. — a formality to officially enshrine his feat in any record books, having just crossed the eastern North Pacific Ocean alone and unsupported from his June 9 launch in San Francisco.
