A Two Wave Total follows Australia’s leading female surfers as they chase glory on the Australian leg of the ASP Women’s World Championship Tour. Stephanie Gilmore, Sally Fitzgibbons, Laura Enever, Tyler Wright, Rebecca Woods and junior star Nikki Van Dijk put it all on the line in front of their home fans at the Roxy Pro Gold Coast, Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach and Commonwealth Bank Beachley Classic in Sydney. A Two Wave Total follows their progress on the Dream Tour as they not only take on each other but the planet’s best female surfers in their quest for surfing’s ultimate honour — the World Title.
Current ASP world number three surfer, Joel Parkinson (31, Coolangatta, Qld) and paddling partner, Wes Berg (32, Miami, Qld) have finished third in their division of the 16th annual Molokai To Oahu Paddleboard Championships in Hawaii.
“We were hoping for a top five finish, so to finish in the top three was huge for us,” said Parkinson, who competed in the event for the first time during a six-week break in the ASP world surfing tour. “It was awesome.” The pair competed in the stock paddleboard division and made the crossing in a time of 5 hours and 49 minutes. “It was so good because the Hawaiian guys who won (Mikey Cote and Mitch Degues) are unbelievable paddlers, professional paddlers, and I’m just a surfer. The Nike US Open of Surfing represents the fifth of seven events on the ASP North America Pro Junior Series and its ASP 4-Star status plays a vital role is surfers’ qualification campaigns for the ASP World Junior Tour.
