Going into the final event of the surf season, Americans held the three top spots in women’s world championship standings. But only two of them can qualify for the Olympic Games in Tokyo, where the sport is making its Olympic debut.
This Newsy documentary follows Carissa Moore, Lakey Peterson and Caroline Marks as they compete for Olympic berths — a drama-filled race to Tokyo that touches on the ascendance of the sport, the fight for gender equality and the joys, as well as the pressures of being the best surfers in the world.
“Hawaiian Islands” is a silent, black-and-white movie shot by Thomas A. Edison’s film studios in 1906.
Features the oldest surf footage ever found, and several portraits of life in Hawaii in the early 20th century, including fishing activities, shipping cattle, loading sugar, panoramic city views, etc.

The last of those things played a big role in Soft Serve. Kael, who is 20 years old, was on a heater during the first few days of the second trip to Indo — until the injury put an end to that. You can imagine what would have went down if his ankle stayed intact. Or, instead, you can just watch Soft Serve and get fucking amped to surf.
