The Oakley High School Surf Team Challenge is back for the third consecutive year with two stops, San Diego and Orange County, in collaboration with the Oakley Surf Shop Challenge. The High School Surf Team Challenge pits 10 high school teams from each region against each other for the two regional titles and a bevy of sponsor prizes and accolades.

Spyder Surf Fest will once again bring together the surf industry’s most prominent brands and surfers to Hermosa Beach on April 5 for a seventh consecutive year. The day will kick off the day with the “Surfers Walk of Fame” induction ceremony at 11:30 a.m. followed by a day of live music, fashion shows, interactive booths, giveaways and new to this year’s Surf Fest line-up – the LA Surf Awards, which will be presented at 3 p.m. at Hermosa Pier Plaza. Sometimes the allure of perfect surf is just too much to pass up—even if those waves could have man-eating sharks lurking beneath them. Such is the case on Reunion, an idyllic tropical island in the Indian Ocean. Since 2011, there have been a dozen shark attacks on Reunion Island—five of which were fatal. Renowned breaks like St. Leu—the onetime host of a World Championship Tour event—were left empty after a rash of fatal and non-fatal sharks attacks rocked the small yet tightly knit surf community.
