The cliff diving decider close to the small village of Niyabat Tiwi in Oman will be a hot one in more than one way: the Arabic summer is still in full swing and awaits the world’s cliff diving elite with temperatures of up to 45° Celsius, with the battle for the most prestigious title in this sport closer than it’s ever been with only one competition to go. American Steven LoBue and defending World Series champion Gary Hunt, from England, both have to win the seventh and final stop on the Arabian peninsula to take the title of World Series champion for 2012. Red Bull Illume interviews photographer Mirja Geh about her experiences in action sports photography. Geh offers a female perspective in a male-dominated profession and reveals how she captured a few of her best photographs.
“Stinky”, the Cayman loner Dolphin – our encounter:
“Stinky” is the poorly chosen name people in the Cayman Islands gave to the loner Dolphin which cruises “our” waters here since four years. He was expelled from his pod, maybe because of bad behavior…. who can tell.
There have been many encounters over the years but the encounters seem to become more and more aggressive. This is probably because the Dolphin is now sexually mature and at the height of his “potential”. But, being a loner Dolphin, he has no mate to court (there aren’t many Dolphins in “our” waters).Â
So he is becoming a sexually frustrated young male Dolphin. This makes it a bad idea to actively seek contact with him because he could use you as a mate (Dolphins are known for such behavior). Dolphins are also know to rape other Dolphin (males/females) and humans.
