Haleakala, “The House of the Sun”
On a recent trip to Maui, I had the opportunity to visit the world’s largest dormant volcano – Haleakala. The size of this volcano is massive – Manhattan could fit inside. I’m still in shock at how awesome this place is. Arriving before sunrise, I placed a few cameras out in hopes to capture what people refer to as, “The most beautiful sunrise in the world.”
What’s better then one surfing dog? 40 surfing dogs! Our furry surfing friends got together at the eighth annual Loews Coronado Bay Surf Dog Competition sponsored by Unleashed by Petco. For the second year in a row the event will benefit the ASPCA. We met up with some of the fierce competitors and their owners about the competition, surfing, and giving back.
Pure cliff diving directly off the cliff face, the reigning champion on top of the rankings and the youngest athlete on the podium — the circular-shaped Vila Franca do Campo islet offshore from São Miguel in the Azores archipelago made the perfect backdrop for the third stop of the current World Series season. Despite rough conditions throughout the entire week, the previous seasons’ dominant figurehead from the British Islands took over the reigns from Russia’s Artem Silchenko in Portugal to top the overall standings with a well fought win. Hunt won ahead of a reinvigorated Orlando Duque from Colombia, and the 23-year-old rookie Jonathan Paredes of Mexico took his first podium in front of 1,300 spectators.
