The world’s best cliff divers came to the outstanding city of Bilbao in Spain’s Basque country to hold a one-of-a-kind 27m event off La Salve Bridge. The penultimate stop of 2014 Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series, is the first-ever on Spanish soil and has the iconic Guggenheim Museum as a backdrop. The brave athletes introduced their impressive sport to the Spanish people in the heart of the city and continued to fight for their chance to win the overall title. The spot was the picturesque setting for the best cliff divers from around the world to take the plunge from the daunting height of 27m and enter the water at almost 90km/h (56 mph). Artem Silchenko (RUS) showed a solid performance and claimed first place. Behind the Russian, overall champion Gary Hunt (UK) came in second and Kris Kolanus (POL) finished third
The summer break is over and the cliff divers are ready to take on the final two stops of the 2014 World Series. Back to business, it`s Bilbao City, who welcomes the athletes in Spain for the first time in history.
In this penultimate Stop the cliff divers will jump off the famous La Salve Bridge with a height not less than 27 meters. This will be the take-off point for three seconds of freefall for a total of 14 divers.
At the last stop on the Azores it was Steven LoBue, who took the victory and made up crucial ground on Gary hunt in the overall standings. The triple champion wants his title back, but it`s going to be a thrilling fall.
