Instead, the might of Mother Nature has spoken, and the tiny rowing boats have been limited to short trips out from the harbour of San Sebastian in La Gomera, as prevailing weather conditions meant that it has been much too dangerous for them to set off. Frustrating though it is has been, crews have had to play a harsh waiting game, with most taking the decision to return home over Christmas, leaving their boats behind in the Canaries.
