In the ensuing melee, William Bonnet, who appeared to trigger the crash when he clipped a wheel, broke a cervical vertebra, while yellow jersey holder Fabian Cancellara went somersaulting dramatically into a roadside hedge, his bicycle pirouetting in the air behind him.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, cycling and Le Tour are no strangers to crashes.
