The National Sand Drag Association wants to schedule races west of San Jacinto, but the site’s proximity to potential habitat-conservation areas complicates the permitting process.
Four environmental groups have alerted Riverside County that they have concerns about proposed races. Once an application is submitted for a special-events permit, they want to comment about the effects on sensitive environmental resources.

A MOBILE skate park has been bought to tour the areaâ€™s schools.
The portable facility is scheduled for a pitstop at Sir John Talbotâ€™s Technology College during half-term, when it will be sited on the schoolâ€™s tennis courts.
The skate ramps are open to children aged from seven and all sessions are free.

If all goes according to plan, skateboarders will be doing kick flips, nose slides and McTwists at a skateboard park at Northside Park by July 2010.
The design of the $850,000 park, to be about a third the size of a football field, was unveiled to a City Council committee earlier this week.
